How to Wash a Bedspread

Washable Bedspread

There's nothing like covering up with a fresh clean bedspread, but it's always best to check the care label before you toss it in the wash. Touch of Class brand bedspreads can be machine washable or dry clean only. Just check the label or your bedspread's product page for quick laundering instructions, generally listed under the "Details" tab.

Always

  • Check the manufacturer's instructions first before attempting to launder the bedspread.
  • Get the bedspread professionally laundered, if at all possible.

Directions

  1. Take the bedspread to a commercial laundromat with a large-capacity, front-loading washer and dryer. Make sure the washing machine does not have a center agitator.
  2. Launder the bedspread using cold water and very little detergent on a delicate cycle. Do not use bleach.
  3. Tumble dry the bedspread in a commercial dryer on low heat.
  4. Hang the bedspread on a clothesline or indoors to finish drying completely.

How to Remove Wrinkles from a Bedspread

A little wrinkling is normal when a bedspread first comes out of its package. Wrinkles should relax out of the bedspread after it has lain on the bed for a few days. If all else fails, try these tips.

Always:

  • Check the manufacturer's instructions first before attempting to launder the bedspread.
  • Do not put dry clean only bedspreads in the dryer.
  • Get the bedspread professionally laundered, if at all possible.

The Dryer Method (Machine Wash Only)

Directions

  1. Place the bedspread in a large-capacity commercial dryer with a damp washcloth.
  2. Tumble dry on low heat. Allow the bedspread to dry completely on a flat surface, smoothing out any leftover wrinkles with your hands.

The Spray Bottle Method (Machine Wash Only)

Directions

  1. Place the bedspread on the bed or hang it from a clothesline.
  2. Fill a spray bottle with water.
  3. Grip the edges of the bedspread and lightly pull the fabric outwards.
  4. Spray the tightened fabric with water. The wrinkles should relax out.

Why Not Clean at Home?

  • Home-use washing machines may not be large enough for bedspreads. If the bedspread is too big for the washing machine, it could damage the motor.
  • Home-use dryers may also not be large enough for bedspreads.
