Bedskirt Bedding Glossary
- Box Pleat
- A double-fold formed when two lengths of fabric are folded in opposite directions; box pleats can decorate the sides and/or foot panels of a bedskirt.
- Detachable
- A functional feature where a bedskirt can be attached or detached without ever lifting the mattress; the foot and side panels stick to the hook-and-loop tape on the fitted box spring sheet.
- Drop (Bedskirt Drop)
- The length of the bedskirt measured from the top of the box spring down to the floor.
- Gathered
- A decorative feature where bedskirt fabric is bunched into puckers or ruffles.
- Kick Pleat
- A double-fold formed when two lengths of fabric are folded inward instead of in opposite directions; kick pleats are inverted box pleats.
- No Show Bedskirt Band
- A fabric-matched strip that goes around the outer edges of a bedskirt's platform; hides the white or ecru cloth that often shows between the mattress and box spring.
- Platform
- The flat part of some bedskirts, usually white or ecru in color, that covers the top of the box spring.
- Screw Pin
- Corkscrew-like push pins that are inserted through metal eyelets in the bedskirt; the pins screw directly into the box spring for a secure fit that doesn't require lifting up your mattress.
- Split Corners
- A vertical slit that runs through the middle of each corner at the foot of a bedskirt. This accommodates bed post legs and also tucks easily behind the footboard.
- Tailored
- A design feature where bedskirt fabric is crisp and straight along the edges of the foot and sides.
- Voile
- A thin and airy fabric woven from polyester, cotton, or a blend of the two; voile bedskirts have a delicate, semi-transparent appearance.
