This is a follow-up update to my previous review. After Touch of Class contacted me (via phone and email) with further instructions to make the reeds fan out, these lamps now look like that on the displayed picture. My husband immediately fell in love with these lamps despite how unhappy I was with their straight and narrow appearace, that he threatened to lay himself across the road in an attempt to keep me from sending these back. He was determined to do whatever it took to make them look right! What lacks a full five stars is that the enclosed instructions do not mention anything about pushing the top twined band (at the bottom) down to allow the reeds to fan out. Secondly, the top twined band is glued right onto to the bundled reeds so my husband had to carefully cut the glue away from the reeds on both lamps without breaking them - thankfully he only broke one branch. The lamps are the perfect size for our bedroom nightstands, and the lighting sets off the most perfect evening glow in our room. We
I just bought a new home and I'm decorating the top level into a safari/ african theme and I bought two of these lamps as bedroom nightstands - its an extremely large master bedroom. The height and base is the perfect size but I was very disappointed and upset that the top part of the reeds did not fan out after untying the bundled branches. The reeds on both lamps barely measure 20" in dia., stand straight up and feel as though they'll break if I carefully attempt to bend to look like the picture. I 've decided to give it 30 to 40-days to relax on its own and see if the branches will naturally fan out as it looks on the picture before returning this item. This is my first puchase from Touch of Class and I'm disappointed and upset considering how much these lamps cost.
