It's time to give your windows a full-length makeover! Perfect for rooms that demand a little more privacy than usual (such as the bedroom or family room), a few pairs of darling draperies can really help set off your surroundings.

Savvy decorators often pick out their curtains first, then base surrounding decor off a particular print or color found in their window treatments. For example, pink floral curtains will pick up the peachy shade in your sheets and in artwork hanging over the headboard. Coastal window treatments, meanwhile, boast pieced wave designs that you could echo with a nearby rug.

Although design should certainly factor into your decision, don't forget to make sure you're choosing the right length for your room as well:

  • 63" Length Curtains: On most windows, these curtains hang to the sill. Choose shorter curtains when decorating a playroom, kitchen, or any other busy area. Also, if you have a window AC unit, 63" long curtains are an apt choice.

  • 84" Length Curtains: These should just skim the floor on most windows. Often what we picture when we hear the word "drapes," this length affords a timeless, sharp look. Hang these in living rooms, bedrooms, or home offices.

  • 95" Length Curtains: These decadent draperies are ideal for taller windows or if you want to create an elegant "puddling" effect on the floor. Use this length in the dining area or great room.

  • 108" Length Curtains: If you have a higher ceiling, say around 9 feet, these are a great option. And don't forget—you can also mount your curtain rod several inches above the window frame, which creates the illusion of a higher ceiling when your drapes are finally hung.

  • 120" Length Curtains: In a room with 10-foot ceilings, finding floor-length curtains can be a bit of a challenge. Fortunately, these drapes have got you covered. Pinch pleats, tab tops, and grommets make maneuvering them on the curtain rod much easier.
