Best shoe storage available

Bought this piece for use inside a walk-in closet. The quality is fine for such use but won't be mistaken for fine furniture. Assembly is made more difficult by lack of verbal instructions - undoubtedly due to fact it was made in China. Only real quality issue Re the cheap and tiny knobs on the drawer. The drawer is fairly heavy and not counter-balanced rendering the knobs difficult to grasp and the screws attaching them inadequate. This invites on to grasp the top of the drawer which can easily result in pinched fingers. I replaced the knobs with larger brass knobs who H improves the looks and the utility of the piece. I also believe $400 is about twice what the cabinet should cost.

The shoe storage bin was generally easy to put together. Some screws were almost impossible to put in to hold the hinges in place. It looks beautiful and is great for storing shoes. It could be hard for young children to use because of the natural spring in the door. The cushion/pad is very thin and looks very cheap. A better cushion could make it be of higher quality at the entrance to the home.

All the individual pieces fit well, the finish is good and the assembled product feels very solid and functions well. One issue is the mounting of the pivot bracket: it is deep set in the narrowest of shoe slots and with my hands, it is impossible to start the 5/16" screws. Fortunately, it is unlikely the pin will back out even without the mounting screws as the weight of the door tends to hold the pins in

The shoe storage unit is really beautiful, It is better for two people to lift it up and move it ar around, or slide on sliders...I even ordered another one in the Victorian style... ;)

Pretty Good

It is a very beautiful piece. Sturdy. My only qualms are when you shut it, it slams kind of loud. Also, it opens pretty low so you need to bend over.

It was very hard to put together, plus gave wrong instructions. When I purchased it, I asked if it was assembled, the woman said yes. I was very upset when we opened it up. Not sure if I'll ever order anything from their again.

We love the bench, but the directions on how to put all the pieces together were terrible. My husband has had experience with these things and it was still confusing. I would hate to think what a novice would do.

Well packaged with easy instructions; assembly approx 2.5 hrs. Glue received in kit was a bit dry and difficult to put into the dowel pin holes so I used a regular wood glue. Top (or back) section a tad short to put 4 pairs of shoes side by side and close the door so I would call this a 10 pair chest. Staining of pieces matched each other very well. I use a cordless mini-driver in assembly - be certain to set torque low enough not to strip out threads of smaller screws in the the wood composite. Predrilled holes alligned well. The final step for the hinge pin cover inside was a bit tricky for my bulky hands, but was able to finally get the little screws into place. I'm certain even without these screws the door would function well. The pad cover is not removable from the bench seat pad itself for laundering and is a light ivory color which may at some time need recovered. This pad could easily be replaced, recovered or left off the chest if desired.

instructions could have been better. they should have told you to do some steps ahead of some of the teps that were ahead ot it-increased to time to assemble. looks nice it was a little high price for the unit. . sticky woodgrain cocers for screws would have been a good touch.

I love the workmanship and the piece is very pretty. The directions are good for putting it all together, but it is too hard to get the drawer in place!! My husband and I were very disappointed in this last step. If someone purchased this piece and was not good at putting things together, I feel sure they would return it. I would rather pay more and get it already assembled than have to go through that again! I wanted to purchase at least one more when it arrived, but after fighting to get the drawer in place - I am going to look for something else.

Just what we needed

My kids love to leave their shoes "downstairs" but I hated to see them scattered all about. This was a great solution for us. The kids love to put their shoes in this bench...and I get to see a beautiful piece of furniture instead of shoes everywhere. The top part of it is smaller but it works fine for kids' shoes. Others seem to buy this for a bedroom or a closet, but for us it's a great piece for our family room!

Solid, heavy and efficient

Recently purchased the bench and assembled it the day after it arrived. Spent about an hour putting it together. Having read the "not enough glue" reviews from other people, I went out and bought a bottle of wood glue at Home Depot. The glue provided with the product is, at best, a teaspoon's worth. Definitely buy a bottle of wood glue if you're going to purchase this item. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. the most difficult part of assembling this was near the end, when you have to have the patience of a saint in order to get the hinges to aline with the holes they fit into, which allows for the drawer to open and close. I would prefer to have a little bit bigger knobs on the front of the unit, as the door is heavy and since the knobs are small, it makes it a little more difficult to open the piece. Finally, I predict that the cushion on top will need replacement before long, as it does not appear to be made of a durable padding.

Instruction is very clear and easy to follow. The final product looks high scale. We are very satisfied with the product. The only draw back is the last row can only hold kid's shoes (less than size 4)

The plastic bushing for the hinge shattered need replacement. Inserting the screws to the hinge an impossible task with the middle shelf installed. Install shelf after the hinges!! Otherwise product is quality as advertised.

It was a lot of work to put together. The glue supplied was very thick and would not come out of the small container so I had to purchase wood glue. Several dowel holes for the shoe shelves were not properly drilled which lead to spaces and not being able to put the sides on flush. I was finally able to force the shoe shelf assembly/front into the cabinet. It was extremely frustrating to align the side holes to the hinge flange as you had to work in the blind. The concept is wonderful.

Here I am a professional woman, 64 years of age, and I was able to follow the instructions and assemble the shoe storage chest. It is beautiful, and as I assembled it for my husband as a surprise, he's thrilled. It's a beautiful addition to our bedroom. Thank you.

Printed instructions were easy to understand. Quality of both solid wood and veneered components was excellent. Any composite boards were made of high-density material, not crumbly chipboard. All pre-drilled holes lined up. Smooth finish, consistent color. Absolutely top-notch piece of user-assembled furniture. You WILL need more glue, so buy a small bottle of Titebond and throw away the thimble-sized glue that comes with the bench. Ordering the matching mirror now!

This is a beautiful piece of furniture. It went together easily with the exception of the hinges which were difficult only because the holes were nearly impossible to see. My only hesitation in giving it a five-star recommendation would be that shoes placed on the top level will catch on the main frame when opening and closing the door. Only very flat sandals will fit there. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase.

Indeed, not enough glue for the dowels, and not really necessary in my opinion - screws were adequate in keeping things together. Construction took 2 hours. I could have it a little wider, but we are very happy with it.
